On Wednesday 13 March 2024 Prime minister of India Shri Narendra Modi launched PM – SURAJ Portal. The acronym stands for ‘Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan’. The National portal is the need of the hour and aims at providing credit support to almost one lakh small entrepreneurs from marginalised communities of India. Furthermore, while the launch of PM SURAJ Portal, PM also interacted with different depressed classes such as Scheduled Castes , Backward Classes and Sanitation workers. PM assured all of them that the government is making active efforts to make life of underprivileged and deprived sections of the society much better. While addressing the nation PM Modi said “Today’s occasion provides a glimpse of the government’s commitment to prioritise the underprivileged,”. Furthermore, he also iterated that the welfare and upliftment schemes of the government are reaching the grassroot level. He was happy and satisfied to see how Dalits , Deprived and Backward classes are receiving the benefits of these schemes and how they are coming out of their poverty. While addressing the crowd PM Narendra Modi said “This makes me emotional as I am not separate from them, and I see in them my family,”. He was happy with all the efforts that the government was making towards the betterment of the Life of these depressed classes.
During this event organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Prime Minister also talked about why it is important to reach out to marginalised communities of the nation and add them to the mainstream. He also stated that the government is doing proactive efforts to ensure the proper participation of the depressed class in mainstream economy and initiatives like PM-SURAJ has a huge importance in providing financial assistance directly to beneficiaries, eliminating middlemen and commissions. Furthermore, it will also empower these classes not only economically but also socially. Furthermore, he alap stressed that along with this government is also providing the essential amenities like gas connections, bank accounts, and toilets to marginalised communities. This will help them to become modernised and will bring them up from their pit of poverty. The government will now increase its efforts to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and they would remain incomplete without the development of each and every section of the society, this includes the deprived class also. The government will actively Target these communities so that they can be involved in the mainstream flow of the nation and PM SURAJ is the first of many steps in this series.
While talking about the various initiatives that the government has taken to empower the marginalised communities of India such as increasing scholarship for the youth of SC, ST and OBC, doubling assistance and providing effective financial aid to entrepreneurs from marginalised sections through Mudra Yojna and Standup India Scheme. The PM also mentioned how effective these schemes are and till now the government has spent nearly Rs 1.60 Lakh Crores this year only for the benefit of the SC community through various schemes. PM Narendra Modi also said that all the benefits of all the schemes were received by the end users ,unlike the previous regime which was riddled with corruption and scams.
While talking about the education of the marginalised communities PM Narendra Modi told that the government has committed to increasing the scholarship for the youth belonging to the depressed class so that they can pursue their education without any issues and become an active contributing citizens of India. He also iterated the other measures that the government has taken to ensure quality higher education for the marginalised class. One such step was the reservation of 27% seats for the OBC in the all-India quota of medical seats, greater opportunities for OBC students in NEET examinations. The PM also talked about how the government is helping the kids from marginalised sections of the society to realise their dream of studying abroad. National Overseas Scholarship will help underprivileged students a lot so that they can pursue their PhD degrees abroad. Furthermore PM has also increased the funding for the National Fellowship. This fellowship will help students who are pursuing PhD in science related subjects a lot. This fellowship will not only help marginalised sections but the whole community of the students. PM Modi Said “Keeping in mind the entrepreneurship among Dalits, our government has also launched the Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission,”. This incubation centre will help a lot in developing the scientific temperament and innovation amidst the students from marginalised communities. He also stated that the government is in the process of developing yeh Panvh Teerth that are associated with the life of Babasaheb Ambedkar. These teerths will stand as the testament of Ambedkar’s work for the country and will inspire the generations to come. He also stated that he was happy and satisfied with the National commission for Backward classes getting Constitutional Status. This will give much more authority and power to the commission and it can work freely for the upliftment of these communities. He Said “This is a testament to our commitment to provide dignity and justice to the underprivileged,”. He also said that under the Mudra Yojana a total of Rs 30 Lakh Crores have been disturbed to the poor which also includes SC, ST, and OBC communities. This strengthens the government’s resolution towards providing self-employment opportunities for youth from deprived sections. While launching the PM SURAJ Portal, Prime Minister Modi also distributed Ayushman Health Cards and PPE kits to Safai Mitras under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).
The PM SURAJ National portal is a great Scheme launched by the Union government to increase the inclusion of the marginalised sections of the society into the mainstream economy of India. It will provide much needed financial assistance to the entrepreneurs from the depressed classes of the society and will reinforce their contribution to the nation.
