PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana – Features, Eligibility, Documents, Apply Online, Registration, Benefits and more!

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a central government scheme which aims to provide financial support to all small and marginal farmers of India. The Scheme offers additional financial aid to farmers for procuring diverse inputs needed for agriculture and related activities, including ensuring good crop yield and health while meeting their domestic necessities.

PM-Kisan scheme aiding annually with the financial help of Rs. 6000 per year in 3 installments of 2000 to all landholding farmers’ families of India. The Central Government of India is funding 100% for this scheme. The identification of the eligible farmer families will be done by the state and UT governments for the financial aid. In the scheme the monetary help will be directly transferred to the eligible beneficiaries bank account. 

Objective of PM Kisan Yojana

The agricultural sector has always been an important part of India’s economy and farmers are the backbone of the agriculture sector. However the farmer communities have to struggle for financial well-being due to socio-economic disparities among rural and urban areas in the country. Since independence this problem has affected a significant Portion of the country’s demography. The initiative aims to support 125 million small and marginal farmers of India approximately as per its objectives. 

To address the economic and social problems the central and the state governments are working continuously for the elevation of these communities. PM-Kisan (PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana) was launched by the government of India in 2018 to fulfill this motive. The 16th installment of PM Kisan was released on February 28, 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  9 crore farmer families got an installment of Rs 2,000 each in their bank accounts in PM Kisan Yojana this year.

History of PM-KISAN Scheme

The Ryuthu Bandhu scheme was launched by the Government of Telangana in 2018. To aid farmers financially in agricultural equipments, technology and increasing crop yield the Telangana Government provided funds twice a year under this scheme. The Rhyuthu Bandhu scheme was extensively appreciated and recognised by everyone because it directly benefited the farmers. 

Getting inspiration from this the Government of India pitched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojanato to assist farmers financially nationwide. This scheme was functionalized In PM Narendra Modi’s 2018-19 interim budget speech. PM- Kisan yojana was activated on 1st of December 2018. 

At the time of the launch the scheme was to benefit 12 crore farmers of India however later on it was increased to cover 25 crore farmers in the country. The implementation agency for the PM-Kisan yojana is the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. All funding for the scheme comes from the central government. 

Key Features of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

The key features of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana are discussed below:

1. Income Support: 

Minimum Income Support to the farmers is the primary feature of this scheme. Rs. 6000 per annum will be provided to each eligible farmer family across India. The amount is not provided at once but in the 3 installments of each 2000 rupees every 4 months. This amount can be used for various purposes. The guidelines of the PM-Kisan yojana do not discuss any direction on restrictions on usage of the amount. 

2. Funding:

PM-Kisan is a scheme to support farmers financially by the Indian Government, that’s why entire funding for the scheme comes from the Central Government of India. A reserve of 75000 crore rupees was set to spend on this scheme initially. The latest 16th installment of PM Kisan was released on February 28, 2024 in which  9 crore farmer families got an installment of Rs 2,000 approximately 18,000 crore rupees by Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT method. 

3. Identification Responsibility:

While the Government of India is responsible for the funding of PM-Kisan, the identification of beneficiaries is not under its purview. It is the State and Union territory Governments’ responsibility to Identify eligible beneficiaries.  As per Pm-Kisan yojana guidelines it is important to keep in mind that in a farmer family there should be a husband, wife and minor child or children to avail the benefits of PM-KISAN Yojana.

PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria is the most important aspect of any government scheme. Only those farmer families who can qualify these criterias can avail the benefits of this scheme.

• Small and marginal farmers are eligible for PM-Kisan Yojana.
• Farmer families that own cultivable land can apply for the benefits of this yojana.
• The farmer should be an Indian citizen.
• In the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana farmers from both rural and urban areas can register themselves. However the instructions exclude some categories of farmer families from the benefits. 

Farmer Families who are Excluded from PM-Kisan Yojana

Some categories of people cannot avail the benefits of PM-KISAN Yojana. People who are excluded to avail benefits are mentioned as follows:

1. Any Institutional Landholder will be ineligible.
2. Persons who are serving or served a constitutional post.
3. People who are serving or served as officers or employees of Government Ministry, Department or office and its field unit.
4. People who are serving or served as an employee or officer in any state or Central public sector undertaking and autonomous bodies under the government.
5. Persons who are serving or served as employees of local government bodies.
6. Persons who served as minister of both State or Central Governments.
7. Present and former member of Lok Sabha.
8. Present and former Members of the State Legislature.
9. Former or present chairperson of District Panchayat.
10. Former or present Mayor of any municipal corporation.
11. Any Person who filed income tax in the previous assessment year.
12. An individual and his/her family who is superannuated and retired and gets a pension of 10,000 rupees or more per month. (Not if that person was multitasking staff,  group d or class 4th employee.)
13. People that are professionals such as doctors, chartered accountants, Engineers, lawyers and architects.

How to Register for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

People who are meeting the eligibility criteria written about can register themselves as beneficiaries of the PM-Kisan Yojana. The step by step process of registration of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana 2024 as follows:

• PM-Kisan nodal officers are nominated by the respective state governments. Applicants can reach them to register themselves for the scheme.
• Farmers who are eligible can approach local revenue officers or patwaris to register themselves.
• The Common Service Centres (CSCs) can also register the eligible farmers after a fee payment.
• People can also register themselves online on the official website of PM-KISAN Yojana.
• To register on the webportal people need to visit the office website and open the Farmer’s Corner section then click on the tab called “New Farmer Registration”.
• Self-registered farmers can check their PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana application status on status of self-registered/CSC farmers.

Documents Required to Register for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

All applications need to submit following documents to apply for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana:

• Aadhar Card
• Domicile Certificate
• Documents proclaiming ownership of land
• Bank Account Details

Scanned copies of each document have to be uploaded in the case of online registration.

How to Check the Beneficiary Status of PM Kisan Scheme

As previously mentioned, the Government of India provides the minimum income support amount in a year in 3 installations. If an applicant did not receive the money within the set timings, he can check his status of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana online.

Steps are mentioned below:

• Login to PM-KISAN Yojana office website.
• Go to the “Farmers Corner” and click the “beneficiary status”.
• Enter your aadhar card number, registered mobile number and account number.

After providing valid credentials applicants can view their status receipt. A person also can check whether he is included in his village beneficiary list of farmers of PM-Kisan Yojana:

• Under “Farmers’ Corner”, click on the tab marked “List of Beneficiaries”
• Now select State, District, Sub-district, Block and Village and hit “Get Report”.

Now the list of a particular village can be viewed for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. 

PM-Kisan e-KYC for Farmers 

E-KYC is mandatory for the applicants under the PM-KISAN Yojana to avail their installations. Farmers who have not done the e-KYC will not get any benefit of the scheme. The Government provided farmers to do aadhar based e-KYC by OTP authentication on the PM-Kisan official website. The step by step guidelines to complete e-KYC for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana through the PM-KISAN Portal are as follows:

• Login to the PM-Kisan website.
• Go to the “Farmers Corner” and select the e-KYC option.
• Type your Aadhar number and hit on the “Search” button.
• Enter the OTP sent on your registered mobile number and now click on the “Submit OTP” button.
• The E-KYC process is done.

E-KYC can be done by visiting the nearest CSC center for Biometric Authentication.

PM-Kisan e-Mitra

Kisan e-Mitra is a digital assistant (AI-Chatbot) to help farmers with their queries related to PM-Kisan yojana in regional language. It is developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The Chatbot gives real-time information and support to farmers by giving solutions to their complaints and queries. The Chat-bot is available in ten different languages like Hindi, Telugu, Odia, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, English and Punjabi. Ai Chat-bot is simple and user friendly which is easy for farmers to access and use. Some features are given below:

• Languages can be switched in the middle of the conversation.

PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Credit Card

Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme was launched in 1988 by the Government to help farmers with access to funds on time. Now the Government has linked the PM-Kisan scheme with the Kisan Credit Card scheme. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana beneficiaries can apply for the Kisan Credit Card scheme and get short term loans with low- interest rates. With these loans farmers can purchase equipment and spend on new agricultural technology up to a limit. 

Integration with PM-Kisan Scheme:

– The government has integrated the KCC scheme with the PM-Kisan scheme to provide additional financial support to beneficiaries.
