The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, announced the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections today. The elections will happen in 7 phases, starting from April 19 and finishing on June 1. The results will be declared on June 4. He also mentioned that the assembly polls for Andhra Pradesh will be on May 13, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on April 19, and Odisha on May 13.
In a press conference, the Election Commission stated that they are working to address issues like muscle power, money influence, spreading false information, and violations of the Model Code of Conduct, which can affect fair elections.
Approximately 97 crore people are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections. Voters above 85 years old will be allowed to vote from their homes. The Election Commission assured that basic facilities like drinking water and toilets will be available at all polling booths.
The current Lok Sabha’s term ends on June 16, and a new House must be formed before that. The terms of four state assemblies also end in June.
In the last general elections, the BJP won 303 seats, aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Congress secured 52 seats. These elections are crucial for the Opposition parties, as they strive to challenge the BJP’s dominance.

Preparation of Lok Sabha elections 2024
Both regional and National parties have started gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India.. They have already started announcing their candidates for the different constituencies in India. So far Bharatiya Janata Party has released the two lists of 267 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. On the other hand congress has announced the list of 82 candidates only. Other national and regional parties are also releasing the list of their respective candidates. Moreover, if we talk about the preparation made by the Election Commission of India,on 14 March 2024 ECI made the data of Electoral Bond public after summoning it from Stage Bank of India. Furthermore they have also conducted the poll preparedness survey and today they have announced the dates of 2024 General Elections.

Today the Election Commission of India has announced the dates of the 2024 General Elections. The dates were announced today by the poll panel at 3 PM. The ECI has ensured that the polls happen smoothly which is why like last year this year also they will spread the polls in seven phases followed by the result. The tenure for the 17th lok sabha will end in June and the election dates for the 18 th lok sabha has been declared by the Election Commission of India. The elections will start from 19th of April.
