In Gujarat, the political landscape is gearing up as the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have formed a seat-sharing pact. Under this agreement, AAP will contest from Bharuch and Bhavnagar Lok Sabha seats, while Congress will field candidates in the remaining 24 constituencies.

Gujarat has traditionally been a stronghold for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured all 26 seats in the 2019 and 2014 general elections. In the 2022 state Assembly elections, BJP retained power with a significant mandate, winning 156 out of 182 seats.

The Congress recently announced its candidates for Gujarat, including two sitting MLAs and a former legislator. Notably, two-term Congress legislator Geniben Thakor will contest from the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat, challenging BJP’s Rekhaben Chaudhary. Thakor, known for defeating BJP heavyweight Shankar Chaudhary in the past, brings significant experience to the electoral fray.

Furthermore, the Congress nominated MLA Anant Patel for the Valsad seat, reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, and Lalit Vasoya for the Porbandar Lok Sabha seat. Vasoya, a former MLA, aims for a comeback after his defeat in the 2019 parliamentary elections and the 2022 assembly polls.

Rohan Gupta, the national spokesperson of the Congress, will contest from the Ahmedabad (East) Parliamentary seat, bringing his vocal presence from national news channels to the electoral arena.

The Congress has also introduced new faces for the Kutch (Scheduled Caste-reserved seat), Ahmedabad (West) (SC), and Bardoli (ST) seats, showcasing a mix of experience and fresh talent. As the election fervor intensifies, both parties await the BJP’s candidate announcements for the Ahmedabad (East) and Valsad seats, adding to the anticipation of a competitive electoral battle in Gujarat.
