29th Feb Update:- PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme approved for Rs 75,021 crore

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday i.e. February 28 has approved the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme to install rooftop solar in 1 crore houses. This scheme was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 February 2024. Union Minister Anurag Thakur has given information about this decision of the Cabinet. Anurag Thakur said that through PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, approval has been given to install rooftop solar power plants on one crore houses with a total outlay of Rs 75,021 crore.

One crore houses in the country will get 300 units of free electricity through this scheme and there will be a saving of Rs 15,000 annually. Under this scheme, the cost of rooftop solar plant up to 2 kW will be Rs 1,45,000. Out of which a subsidy of Rs 78,000 will be given by the government. Apart from this, loan will also be available in easy installments from the bank. Every village will be made a model solar village through PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

Through this scheme, one crore families will save Rs 15 to 18000 crore annually. Apart from this, they will also be able to sell the remaining electricity to electricity distribution companies.
