This year, there are 10 Teams in the IPL, each with its own owner(s). Let’s take a look at each team and their IPL Team owners:

IPL Team Owners List 2024

Sunrisers Hyderabad Owner – Kalanithi Maran

The sun rises Hyderabad is owned by one of the biggest media conglomerates in India , SUN Group private limited. The SUN group is mainly in the entertainment and media business. They have various sub divisions including film and television production, publishing, radio, cable television, DTH service, and broadcasting. The current chairman and owner of the SUN Group is Kalanithi Maran. Therefore the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad is also Kalanithi Maran. 

Chennai Super Kings Owner – N. Srinivasan

Currently  Chennai Super Kings is owned by the famous company India Cements Limited,via one of their holding companies , Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, which was formed in 2014. Moreover, if we talk about the exact ownership, then the name of N Srinivasan comes up , he is the current managing director of India Cements Limited and the owner of CSK. Srinivasan has been the de facto owner of the team Since the first IPL in 2008. 

Rajasthan Royals Owner – Manoj Badale

Rajasthan Royals is the Jaipur based franchise and is one of the most famous and fan favourite teams in IPL. Moreover, RR was the winner of the first ever IPL season in 2008 , which gained them huge recognition. However after that they weren’t able to win a single cup.  As a matter of fact , Rajasthan Royals was the cheapest team of all the eight franchises that were bought in the IPL 2008. The Emerging media bought the franchise for $67 Million. Since then the fan base of RR is ever growing, however the team went through some major scandals that tainted their name. The initial majority owner of the RR were Emerging media, however it attracted controversy regarding its ownership way back in 2010. The controversy veas regarding a silent shareholder who held a significant portion of the team and it was also said that fake bids were also made during the auction. This was all against the rules and regulations of the BCCI.  In 2015 Businessman Raj Kundra and famous actress Shilpa Shetty bought stakes in RR , however after that their name was caught up in a betting and match fixing scandal which attracted the ban of 2 years for Rajasthan Royals along with other teams

Delhi Capitals Owner – GMR Group and JSW Group

Delhi Capitals is one of the original eight teams with which the IPL 2008 started. The Delhi Capitals are based out of  New Delhi and they were the finalist of the inaugural tournament in 2008. The original name of Delhi Capitals was Delhi Dare Devils and it was bought by GMR Group for $ 84 million dollars in 2008. However in 2018 when the JSW sports a subsidiary of JSW group bought half of the stake of Delhi their devils they changed the name from DD to Delhi capitals. The JSW sports bought 50% of the state from the owner GMR Group for ₹550 crore. Currently JSW group and GMR Group are the joint owners of the team Delhi capitals. They both have a say in the management of the team and can be seen during the auction. As of 2023 , the Delhi Capitals are the fifth most valuable IPL team, with an estimated value of $1.035 million.

Mumbai Indians Owner – Reliance Industries

The owners of the Mumbai Indians are none other than the famous Ambani’s. Ambani’s are one of the most richest and famous business families around the world.  Mukesh Ambani, the head of the family, is the owner of Reliance industries. However, reliance industries don’t own Mumbai Indians directly.  The famous IPL franchise Mumbai Indians is owned by Indian  Win sports limited a subsidiary of reliance industries founded in 2007. Indiawin owns multiple teams in various sports franchises around the world. The sports division of Reliance industries is managed by the wife of Mukesh Ambani, Mrs Nita Ambani and his son  Akash Ambani. They are the one who takes the decision about the team and will be seen cheering the team during the Matches. However , if we talk about the owner of Mumbai Indians, Mukesh Ambani is the sole owner of the team on paper.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Owner – United Spirits

RCB is one of the initial and original franchises of the IPL who was present in the first season of the tournament.  In 2008 Royal Challengers Bangalore was bought by Vijay Mallya, the previous chairman of the Kingfisher airlines and United spirits. During the auction of the team the bid for the RCB was the second highest amounting to a whopping $111.6 Million. However the journey of Vijay Mallya and RCB was only till 2016 when he defaulted on a major loan that he had taken and had to leave the country to avoid prison. Currently Vijaya Mallya is termed as bhagoda and is a wanted criminal. Now , the Kingfisher Airlines does not exist and the sole owner of the RCB is United Spirits. There is no individual owner as of now. Currently Royal Challengers Bangalore is the sixth most valuable franchise of the IPL and has the valuation of INR 1.25 Million.

Kolkata Knight Riders Owner – Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Jay Mehta

Well the ownership of the Kolkata knight riders is studded with famous Bollywood stars. Famous Bollywood actor Sharukh khan and actress Juhi chawala are  owners of Kolkata knight riders. KKR is one of the original eight teams of the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders was bought by Shah Rukh Khan’s film production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, in unison with Juhi Chawla and her spouse, Jay Mehta, for ₹ 2.98 billion at the time. You can see both of them at the matches along with their families cheering for their team. 




Punjab Kings Owner – Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, and Karan Paul

The Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) franchise is jointly owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, businessman Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, and Karan Paul. The franchise was purchased in 2008, and despite not having won an IPL title yet, the team has consistently performed well in the league.

Gujarat Titans Owner – CVC Capital Partners

Gujarat Titans is relatively new franchise when compared to all the other franchise in the IPL however this team has shocked everyone with their stunning performance and their win at the first ever IPL debut in 2022. The team is based out of Ahmedabad and its captain until 2023 was Hardik Pandya. The 2022 wasn’t the only shocked that the team gave , continuing their super performance Gujarat Titans also manage to reach the finals of IPL 2023 too. However they lost to the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 finals. Gujarat Titans was up for auction in 2021 along with another  franchise.  Many companies bidded in order to buy the team , however the  CVC Capital partners emerged victorious and won the ownership of Gujarat Titans with a bid of  ₹5,625 crores.  

 Lucknow Supergiants Owner – Sanjiv Goenka

Sanjiv Goenka is the owner of the Lucknow SuperGiants franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team is part of the RPSG Group, which is a conglomerate with diverse interests in various sectors including power and energy, retail, sports, and entertainment. The RPSG Group is headquartered in Kolkata, India, and is one of the largest business groups in the country. Sanjiv Goenka is the Chairman of the RPSG Group, which was founded by his father, R.P. Goenka.
