Currently  Chennai Super Kings is owned by the famous company India Cements Limited,via one of their holding companies , Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, which was formed in 2014. Moreover, if we talk about the exact ownership, then the name of N Srinivasan comes up , he is the current managing director of India Cements Limited and the owner of CSK. Srinivasan has been the de facto owner of the team Since the first IPL in 2008. He was still at the helm even after the controversies surrounded the team. Srinivasan is the former chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His huge experience proved to be of great use for the team all these years.

Who is N. Srinivasan?

He was born on January 3, 1945, in Present Day Tamil Nadu. Narayanaswami Srinivasan is the owner of Chennai Super Kings and is also the managing director of India Cements .  He is an Indian businessman and Industrialist who has also served lots of key positions in various kricket boards. Srinivasan was earlier the chairman of ICC and has been director of the BCCI. Apart from that he was also the president of Tamil Nadu cricket association. Srinivasan joined India Cements as the vice-chairman and managing director in 1989 and continues to head the company even today. His daughter Rupa Gurunath serves as the Whole-time Director. Srinivasan was  one of the early members in IPL who bought a team. His company India Cements bought Chennai Super Kings in 2008 IPL auction for $91 Million . Furthermore ,in 2011 Srinivasan was made the president of BCCI and he remained in this position for a long time. The current networth of the owner of Chennai Super Kings is INar 7.2 billions. 

N. Srinivasan Controversies

The name of the owner of CSK , Mr Srinivasan has been associated with lots of controversies. One of his early controversies was related to the conflict of interest. Many professional and cricket enthusiasts criticised Srinivasan back in 2011 when he was made the president of BCCI. Due to his involvement in the ICC and BCCI while also heading the IPL he was criticised a lot. In 2013, the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal came to light. Investigation revealed that Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was involved in the crime as well. This was a big shock for him and once again he was amidst lots of controversies. He was eventually implicated along with Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra and banned from any and all cricket-related activities for life. Furthermore the situation escalated as he was the president of BCCI at that time and due to his relation with Meiyappan he received lots of criticism. Another controversy related to Srinivasan is that he is  a misogynist. He is a firm believer that women should not be allowed to play cricket.  In 2015, the RM Lodha Committee suspended India Cements and banned Chennai Super Kings from competing in the IPL for two years. The year of 2022 was bad for both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, the giants of the Indian Premier league. In the IPL 2022 Ravindra Jadeja was named as the captain of the CSK , however after losing 6 out of 8 matches , the management decided to bring Dhoni back as captain. However, in that season both CSK and MI finished at the bottom of the points table. In 2023 Mas Dhoni was again at helm and the team started to perform exceptionally well. During yeh 16th edition of Indian premier league CSK qualified for the finals and won the cup by defeating Gujarat Titans.
