UGC-NET Eligibility Update: Students with 4-Year Degrees Can Now Pursue PhD Programs

As per the latest report, Students with 4 years of degree now sit in NET and pursue the PhD. The chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Jagadesh Kumar stated that a candidate or student who has passed a four-year undergraduate degree is now eligible to sit in the NET exam and can pursue the PhD. To apply for the PhD and qualify, candidates required a minimum of 75 percent marks or equivalent grades in their 4-year undergraduate course. Previously, the minimum percentage mark was 55 for a master’s degree.

Students can appear in exams with the subject they want to get a PhD.  As said the minimum mark required is 75 percent, but there is a relaxation of five percent marks for the special category like SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), differently-abled, economically weaker sections and other categories. This is an official update from the chairman of UGC. 

The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) is a national-level exam conducted to hire the right candidate for the Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. It is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Students can apply for several subjects as per their field for the PhD like humanities, social sciences, commerce, computer science, and applications, among others. After conducting the exam, the student is eligible to apply for Assistant Professor positions in universities and colleges across India or pursue research with a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in their chosen subject area. How To Apply For UGC-NET?

Check Eligibility Criteria:

Before applying for the UGC-NET Exam, it is important to check that you are eligible for it. If you hold a four-year undergraduate degree with 70-75 percent, then you are eligible for it.   • On the homepage, navigate to the notification stating the “Apply Online” link for the UGC-NET exam.
  • Now register yourself as a new user. Enter your name, email address, mobile number and date of birth.
  • After entering all the details, create the password.
  • Choose a security question and answer for account recovery purposes.
  • After successful registration, log in using the generated credentials.
  • Make sure to save the credential to use it later.

Pay Application Fee

  • Now proceed to the payment section after carefully review the application form
  • You can select the preferred payment mode like online or offline to pay the UGC-NET application fee
  • For online mode, you can pay through a credit/debit card, net banking, UPI, etc.
  • For offline mode, generate the e-challan and make the payment in your designated bank branch.
  • After successful payment, an application fee receipt will be generated.

 

Print Confirmation Page

  • After completing the payment, make sure to download and print the confirmation page.
  • This confirmation page is proof of your application submission to the UGC-NET
  • You can use this information for future use.
