Overview of RPSC RAS Exam Structure and Selection Process

The RAS exam is open to all Rajasthan People. It is an exam conducted in multiple stages, including a preliminary exam, main exam, and interview. Ongoing RAS Exam 2023, there are 905 RPSC RAS 2023 Vacancies. For State Service Posts, 424 openings and for Subordinate Services Posts, 481 openings. Thousands of candidates applied for the position and are fighting for their positions.

  • Preliminary Examination: It is the first exam based on objective-type questions. It consists of one paper – General Knowledge and General Science. The RAS Preliminary exam is a screening test.

  • Main Examination: One who clears the Preliminary exam, is eligible for the main exam. It is a written exam and consists of four General Studies I, General Studies II, General Studies III, and General Hindi and English. It is a descriptive type exam and candidates have to explain everything in depth.

  • Interview: After qualifying for the main exam, the candidate is eligible for the interview round. It is a test of a candidate’s personality, communication skills, and suitability for administrative positions.






RAS Exam Syllabus

As said, the RAS exam is conducted in three stages-

  • Stage 1: RAS Pre – One Paper – Objective Type – 200 Marks

  • Stage 2: RAS Mains – 4 Papers – Theory/Descriptive – 800 Marks Total

  • Stage 3: RAS Interview/Personality Test/Viva-voce – 100 Marks

RPSC RAS Pre Syllabus:

 It is a screening test and its marks are not counted in the final merit list. It is just an exam to appear in the RAS Main exam.

  • Exam: One Exam

  • Subject Name: General Knowledge and General Science

  • Max Marks: 200

  • Duration: 3 Hours

  • Negative Marking: Yes (1/3rd of the marks allocated for the question)

  • Number of Questions: 150

The syllabus of Ras Pre is focused on the Rajasthan and General topics-

General Knowledge and General Science:

  • Literature, Tradition, Culture, Art, History, and Heritage of Rajasthan

  • Geography of Rajasthan

  • Administrative and Political System of Rajasthan

  • Economy of Rajasthan

  • Current Affairs – Rajasthan






General Topics:

  • Indian History – Ancient, Medieval, and Modern

  • Geography – Indian, World

  • Indian Political System, Constitution, and Governance

  • Economic Concepts and Indian Economy

  • Science and Technology

  • Reasoning and Mental Ability

  • Current Affairs

RPSC RAS Main Exam:

It is a theory or descriptive type paper. Marks obtained in the RAS Main exam are counted in the final merit list.

  • Exam: For Exam

  • Subject Name: General Studies I, General Studies II, General Studies III, General Hindi and General English

  • Max Marks: 200 each

  • Duration: 3 Hours each

  • Number of Questions: 48 questions total

The RAS Main exam focuses on several things-

Paper I: General Studies I

  • History of Rajasthan, including Prehistoric times, Important dynasties, and Significant events of the 19th & 20th centuries

  • Indian History & Culture, covering Fine Art, Performing Art, Architecture & Literature, Religious Movements, History of Modern India, and more

  • History of the Modern World, including topics such as Renaissance, Imperialism, and Impact of World Wars

  • Economics, focusing on Major Sectors of the Indian Economy






Paper II: General Studies II

  • Administrative Ethics

  • General Science & Technology

  • Earth Science (Geography and Geology)

Paper III: General Studies III

  • Indian Political System, World Politics, and Current Affairs

  • Concepts, Issues, and Dynamics of Public Administration and Management

  • Sports and Yoga, Behaviour, and Law

Paper IV: General Hindi and General English

  • Grammar and Usage

  • Comprehension, Translation, and Precis Writing

  • Composition & Letter Writing

RPSC RAS Interview Exam:

RAS interview around, also known as personality test. It is carried for 100 points. Its marks are calculated in the merit list for the final selection. There is no specific syllabus to cover for this round. It is a test of your interpersonal skills, physical attributes, subject-matter expertise, and a deep understanding of Rajasthani cultural aspects. So, you can consider them or you can check videos of the last RAS candidate who cleared their exam. There are many videos on YouTube, etc that are sharing their interviews and their views.

Eligibility Criteria of RAS

If you want to apply for the RAS, check whether you are eligible or not-

  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen.

  • The minimum age limit is 21 years and the maximum is 40 years. Moreover, there is a relaxation based on the category. For SC/ST/OBC Male Candidates, more than 5 years relaxation, for SC/ST/OBC Female Candidates, more than 10 years relaxation, For Female Candidates (General Category)- 5 years, for Widow Candidates/Divorced Women – No Upper Age Limit, for Person With Disability – General Category: 10 years, Person With Disability – OBC: 13 years, Person With Disability – SC/ST: 15 years, Ex-Servicemen, Ex-Prisoners, Persons serving in Rajasthan state administration.

  • Candidates may be required to fulfil certain domicile requirements specified by the Rajasthan government in a substantive capacity: Age relaxation provisions.

  • For educational qualification, the candidate must hold a bachelor; ‘s degree from a recognized university,

  • Candidate should be physically and mentally fit as per your guidance

  • Candidates must be proficient in Hindi Language.

  • Candidates can attempt the RAS Exam for a specific time only. The number of attempts for the RPSC RAS for the General Category: Four attempts and OBC Category: Seven attempts.







How To Apply For the RAS Exam Online?

To apply for the RAS Exam in the upcoming session, follow the following steps. There is no application that is live right now.

  • Visit the official website of RPSC (https://rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in/).

  • On the homepage, navigate to the “Apply Online” or “Recruitment” section

  • Now, search and click on the RAS Exam or RAS application form.

  • You need to register yourself first. Register yourself with your name, email address, mobile number, etc to create a username and password.

  • Now, login to your account with a created username and password.

  • Fill out the RAS Application form with personal details, educational qualifications, contact information, etc.

  • Upload the required scanned document like photograph, signature, and any other relevant certificates only in the specified format.

  • Next, pay the application fee. You can pay through online options like net banking, credit card, debit card, etc. Remember, the application fee varies as per category and number of attempts.

  • Now, carefully check the details and payment and submit the form

  • After successful submission, take a printout of the application form for future use.

  • It will have your registration number or application ID, which is used to download the RAS Admit Card.

  • Keep visiting the official RPSC website regularly for updates and start your preparation.

RPSC RAS Application Fee

The application fee for Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) is category-wise based. Different categories have different application fees. The application fee for General and OBC category candidates is higher than SC, ST, EWS, and PWD candidates

  • General Category: INR 600

  • SC/ST Category: INR 400

  • Other Backward Classes: INR 400

  • PwD and Rajasthan State’s SC, ST: INR 50

RAS Exam Preparation Guide

The RAS Exam is very difficult. You need a strategic approach and thorough planning to prepare for the RAS EXAM. Let’s follow the below guidance-

  • First, understand the syllabus properly, and what topics and subjects you need to cover.

  • Now, create a study plan by allocating equal time to each subject and topic. Time management is important to cover everything parallel.

  • Choose the best study material. Get textbooks, reference books, and mock papers from previous years papers.

  • Practise previous years’ RAS question papers or mock papers to understand the exam pattern, question format and difficulty level. Just learning and reading is not enough.

  • Try to practise one mock paper or sample paper once a day for a better preparation level and speed up your practice.

  • Stay updated with the latest news. So read the newspaper or check the new online portal every day. It is important to enhance the current affairs.

  • Pay special attention to Rajasthan’s history, geography, culture, economy, and polity because it is a Rajasthan-based exam.

  • While studying hard, take care of your physical and mental health. Have a balanced diet, stay hydrated and get enough sleep.
