PM Scholarship or Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) is a scheme to support higher studies or financial assistance to the wards of martyred soldiers of the armed forces, central armed police forces (CAPFs), and state police personnel and their widows pursuing professional degree courses, such as engineering, medical, dental, veterinary, MBA, MCA, and other fields. The scheme is administered by the Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat (KSB) under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Recently, the government of India revised the amount of scholarship from Rs 2250 to Rs 3000 per month for girls and 2000 to 2500 per month for boys. The government additionally awarded 500 new scholarships to the wards of State Police officials who are/were martyred in Naxal or terror attacks.

PM Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To get the PM Scholarship, there are certain eligibility criteria, which are detailed below-

  • Candidates must be the ward(son/daughter) of ex-servicemen/ex-coast guard personnel, who served in the armed forces, central armed police forces (capfs), and coast guard.
  • Candidates can be windows of ex-servicemen/ex-coast guard personnel, who served in the armed forces, central armed police forces (capfs), and coast guard.
  • candidates must pass the qualifying examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • Candidates must pursue any professional course to get the scholarship.
  • The minimum education requirement of class 12/ diploma/ graduation.
  • As per the latest update, candidates can also benefit from the wards of state police officials who are/were martyred during naxal/terror attacks.
  • The annual income should not exceed INR 6 lakh per annum.
  • There is no specific age to apply for the pm scholarship scheme.
  • Candidates must hold a professional degree like be, b.tech, bds, mbbs, b.ed, b.b.a, bca, b.pharma, etc. from recognized universities.
  • Master’s degree is not eligible under the pm scholarship scheme.
  • The candidate is not eligible for foreign studies with it.
  • Candidates with wards of civilians including para-military personnel are not considered in the PM scholarship.


How to register for the PM Scholarship 2024-25?

If you are eligible for the PM Scholarship 2024-25, then the following steps are needed to follow to register yourself-

  • Begin by accessing the official website of the National Scholarship Portal https://sholarships.gov.in/.
  • On the homepage, navigate yourself to the “New Registration” button in the “Applicant Corner”.
  • Now, carefully read all the application guidelines by clicking on the Continue button.
  • On the next webpage, register yourself with your mobile number and Aadhar card number. First, verify your linked mobile number with an Aadhar card. A registration form will open on the screen.
  • Fill in all the required details on the registration form and submit the page.
  • Your registration process is completed on the NSP Portal for the PM Scholarship Scheme.
  • Remember the registration details to log in later.


How To Apply For PM Scholarship 2024-25?

 

After registration on the NSP portal, you can apply for the PM Scholarship 2024-25. Follow these steps to apply for a scholarship once the registration is open-

  • Visit the official website of the Nation Scholarship Portal
  • On the homepage, navigate the “New Application” button in the Applicant corner.
  • Now click on the login button and log into your account with the registration number, password and captcha. Click on the login button.
  • Verify your number with the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  • Now, set the password, if you never did it. The default password is your date of birth in the format DDMMYYYY. Change the password and set a new password whatever you like.
  • Once the password is done, click on submit
  • Now the PM Scholarship application form 2024 will open.
  • Fill out the required details in the application form by selecting the appropriate category from “Basic Profession” from “Central Armed Forces/Assam Rifles, RPF/SRPF, State Police Personnel” etc. 
  • Make sure to fill in all personal details carefully like name, educational qualifications, contact information, etc
  • If required, upload the required scanned documents like proof of age, academic transcripts/mark sheets, admission letter from the institution, proof of Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Coast Guard personnel status, widow certificate (if applicable), income certificate, etc. Make sure it is in the specified format.
  • Once you’ve filled out the registration form, uploaded the required document and selected the appropriate category, then carefully check again everything and click on the Save and Continue button.
  • On the next website, select ” Pradhan Mantri Scholarship Scheme” in the “Select Scheme” column and submit the page.
  • Your application is completed. Make sure to take a printout of this page for future use.
  • After completing the registration process, wait till the authorities verify the documents. If verification is done, they may contact you by email or updates on the official website.


Required Document for PM Scholarship

Here is the list of required documents for the PM Scholarship application form-

  • Proof of document to status as the ward (son/daughter) of Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Coast Guard personnel or widows of such personnel.
  • Proof of age or birth certificate.
  • A proof of the marksheet of qualifying examination (e.g., Class 12 for undergraduate courses or graduation for postgraduate courses).
  • Proof of income. A certificate of annual family income.
  • Details of the applicant’s bank account, including bank name, branch, account number, and IFSC code.
  • Service-related documents or certificates of the applicant’s parents/guardians, establishing their status as Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Coast Guard personnel.
  • Certificate issued by the government for Naxal /Terror attacks.
  • A proof of the window certificate of Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Coast Guard personnel. 
  • A proof of category certificate
  • A Proof of domicile or residency in India.
  • Recent passport-sized photographs.

PM Scholarship 2024 Selection Criteria

After the application of the PM Scholarship, selection criteria begin with the authorities. Selection criteria are categorized into different groups typically denoted as Category A, Category B, and so forth. Below is an overview of the selection criteria for PM Scholarship 2024, organized by categories: 

  • Category A: The PM Scholarship awards the first preference to the wards and widows of CAPFs & AR personnel who were killed in action.
  • Category B: The PM Scholarship prioritizes the second preference to the wards and widows of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who were disabled in action.
  • Category C: The PM Scholarship grants the third preference to the wards and widows of deceased CAPFs & AR personnel who died in government service.
  • Category D: The PM Scholarship awards the fourth preference to the wards and widows of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who become disabled in government service.
  • Category E: The PM Scholarship prioritizes next the wards and widows of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who received gallantry awards.
  • Category F: The PM Scholarship awards the next preference to the wards of Ex-CAPFs & AR personnel who are PBOR only.
  • Category G: The PM Scholarship prioritizes the wards of serving CAPFs & AR personnel who are PBOR (Personnel Below Officer Rank).


PM Scholarship 2024 Renewal

Candidates need to renew their PM scholarship after the first Payment. After application, selected candidates get their first instalment of the PM scholarship after the declaration of merit list. To receive the next installment of their PM Scholarship, candidates must first renew their scholarship online. However, renewal itself is contingent upon successfully completing the semester or academic year with a minimum of 50% marks. It’s important to note that all subjects must be passed in a single attempt. Any backlogs or “no clear” markings on the mark sheet will disqualify candidates from PM Scholarship renewal.
