The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched a new scheme to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the coming months. The new e-Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 (EMPS 2024) will entail an outlay of Rs 500 crore for four months from April 1 to July 31, 2024. This has been brought after the end of the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) subsidy programme. The FAME II scheme will end on March 31. The company said that the new incentive amount will be available only for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.Under EMPS 2024, the government will provide an incentive of Rs 10,000 on every electric two-wheeler. Which will go up to Rs 25,000 per vehicle for small electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaw and e-kart) and Rs 50,000 for large electric three-wheelers. MHI said in a statement that it aims to support around 3.3 lakh two-wheelers and around 31,000 electric three-wheelers with the latest e-mobility scheme. The ministry also clarified that the incentive benefit will be available only to those vehicles fitted with advanced batteries.

Benefits of the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme

The new electric mobility promotion scheme introduced by the central government has various benefits such as it will increase the white spread adoption of the electrical vehicles throughout the country. The ministry of heavy industries has been allotted the budget of INR 500 crore for the electric mobility promotion scheme for the fiscal year 2024. This budget will be increased as per the response of the scheme. Starting from April 1 the EMPS 2024 plan will run till July 31 for 4 months with a total budget of 500 crores.  The government has laid out that a maximum of INR 25000 will be provided as assistance to all those who will acquire small three wheelers such as e rickshaws and ekarts. The  insentive will be given to around 41000 vehicles in these four months. The maximum amount of financial assistance for a large three-wheeler is Rs 50,000.
