BCCI Seeks New Head Coach for Indian Cricket Team: Eligibility, Responsibilities, and Salary Details

The board of control for cricket in India or BCCI is currently looking for a new head coach for the Indian cricket team. The term and the contract of course Rahul Dravid is going to end soon. Term was supposed to end after the ODI World Cup 2023 however seeing the T20 World Cup in close  vicinity the BCCI extended his term. However after the ICC T20 World Cup the BCCI will be looking to find a new head coach for the Indian cricket team. ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is going to start from 2 June 2024 and the United States and this year the United States and West Indies will be hosting this tournament together. As  soon as this tournament ends the team India will be given a new head coach.

The Job Role of Head Coach of Indian cricket team

As per the BCCI the job role of the head coach for Indian cricket team involves various dimensions and will need to work on many things apart from training the players. The major goal and role of the head coach of the Indian cricket team will be to manage and develop a world class cricket team for India that can succeed in all formats available. Apart from this the coach will also be responsible to lead a team of specialists and staff that would assess him in creating a team where the all the names of Indian cricket team. He will lead the team of coaches and support staff and will define their personal roles in the Indian cricket team. Also the work of other coaches and support staff and help  them and guide  them wherever needed.

Another important responsibility of the head coach of the Indian cricket team is to enforce a strict discipline record in the players of the team. The coach keeps their players in line, well disciplined and mannered . Apart from this the head coach is also responsible to the cricketer and consider fan  requests, collaborate with broadcasters, media  , other national teams and all the stakeholders present in the game.

 

Eligibility for the job of Head Coach for Indian cricket team 

BCCI has led down a series of guidelines in eligibility criteria for the head coach of the Indian cricket team. First and foremost the candidates applying for the position of head coach for the Indian cricket team must have at least experience of 30 test matches or 50 ODIs. Apart from that the coaches should also have experience coaching a full member test playing nation team for at least 2 years. Another eligibility criteria that the BCCI has led down for the head coach is that he should have a three years of experience as an associate member of an IPL team or he must be a coach of the team. Either of them is acceptable. Moreover the age of the candidates should be below 60 years and he should have a BCCI level 3 certification if he is an Indian or equivalent certification for candidates from all the other nations.

Salary for Head Coach

The BCCI keeps the options open regarding the salary of the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team (Men). It has written that the remuneration is “negotiable and will be commensurate with experience.”

The BCCI hasn’t specified the exit pre numeration of the head coach for the Indian cricket team. As it is a big position the salary and the compensation is always negotiable. As per the BCCI the right person is open to salary negotiations and he will be commensurate with experience.  The salary component would be attractive as it is the responsibility of the head coach to manage the performance and management of the Indian men’s team in all the three formats of the game.
