What is APAAR?

The full form of APAAR is Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. It is a unique identification system designed for every student of India. It begins from the early age of the student.

It is introduced in line with the national education policy (NEP) of 2020 and National credit and qualification framework (NCrF).

It is not mandatory for students to register under the APAAR ID; it is a voluntary process.

 

Objective:

The main objective of the APAAR ID is to enhance and streamline the academic experience for the students all over India, for this government is going to assign a unique 12-digit ID to each student. In this way every student’s academic record will be consolidated into a single accessible platform. 

The government is emphasising to keep a globally recognised document system, a lively instrument for tracking the educational progress and an aspirational documentation platform for 260 million students of India.

What is the DigiLocker and the Academic Bank of Credits?

DigiLocker: 

It is a digital storage unit like Google-cloud or I-cloud for students to issue, store and back-up all their certificates and documents online. 

It is a pilot project of the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) under digital India program. 

According to rule 9A of the information technology (preservation and retention of information by intermediaries providing digital locker facilities) rules, 2016 students’ documents on the digital locker will be similar to their original documents.

 

Academic Bank of Credits:

According to the national government service portal academic Bank of credits (ABC) is a digital or virtual store house of records of learning journeys of all the students of the country which contains the information of academic and extracurricular activities and achievements by students. It came into effect after the announcement of NEP 2020. 

With the help of this academic Bank of credits student can freely study across the different educational institutions in the country with a proper credit transfer mechanism from one program to another. 

With the help of ABC all the data of students can easily get transferred to his or her new school or educational institution from the old school or educational institutions just by sharing the upper ID. 

 

How to get an APAAR ID?

Registration Process:

To register for APAAR, students need to provide their personal details like DOB, name, age, gender, Aadhar Number, and a photograph. To apply for an APAAR ID Card there are 2 ways:

  1. Using the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) website:

Here’s the step-by-step guide:

  • Go to the ABC website: https://www.abc.gov.in/
  • Click on “My Account” and after it click “Student.”

If student doesn’t have a DigiLocker account:

  • Select “Sign up” and enter your mobile number, address, and Aadhaar card details.
  • Now give permission to share your Aadhaar details with ABC to do KYC.

 

If you have a DigiLocker account:

  • Log in to Digilocker by using your credentials.
  • DigiLocker will ask for your permission to share your Aadhaar card information with ABC. Click on “I agree.”
  • Enter students’ academic details: school/university name, class, course name, etc.
  • Click on the submit button.
  • Your APAAR ID card will be created. Now download and take a print of it.

 




  1. Through DigiLocker:

  • Open the DigiLocker account.
  • Search “Education”.
  • Now click on the  “Academic Bank of Credits” service.
  • Select the  “Create APAAR/ABC ID.”
  • Choose the student’s University and select “Generate APAAR/ABC ID.”
  • Your ID will be set forth. Download it and take a printout.

 

Aadhar authentication:

To verify the name and other personal details of the students Aadhaar number is needed.

 

Parental consent for minors:

During the authentication with UIDAI, consent of the parent of the minor student is mandatory. 

 

Voluntary registration:

It is not mandatory to register for an APAAR ID for the student, it is voluntary.
