Major parties in South Goa are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress party (INC). In the last 10 years, both these parties were able to get the seat for the Lok Sabha constituency in the South Goa region. In the 2014 elections, the BJP was the representative of this region and in 2019, the Congress defeated the BJP and became the representative of this region.Â
2014 and 2019 elections:
Narendra Sawaikar of the BJP won the elections for the Lok Sabha constituency in the year 2014. He defeated Aleixo Renaldo Lorenzo of the Congress party by 32,330 votes. Sawaikar got 198776 votes in total while Lorenzo got 166446 votes in total.Â
COSME FRANCISCO CAITANO SARDINHA of the Congress party won the elections for the South Goa constituency in 2019. He defeated ADV. NARENDRA SAWAIKAR of the BJP with a margin of 2.3% and got a total of 201561 votes. Sawaikar got 191806 votes in total from the people of this region.
Important candidates:
Viriato Fernandes of the Congress party will be contesting for the elections in 2024. Fernandes is a former Indian Navy officer and was a Kargil War soldier, aeronautics engineering specialist, mechanical engineer, and a double MBA. Later he joined the Congress party and became the candidate for Lok Sabha elections. He also took part in the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly elections from the Dabolim constituency.
Pallavi Dempo from BJP, will be the candidate who will participate in the elections for 2024. She is one of the richest candidates from the South Goa region. This will be her first Lok Sabha election. She is the first woman who will be the candidate for the Lok Sabha election from BJP.Â
