North Goa 

 

Goa is present in the Western Side of India. There are two Lok Sabha seats in the Goa region, North Goa and South Goa. North Goa constituency has Hindu and Christian majority. Capital of Goa, Panjim is also there in this constituency. Languages spoken here are English, Hindi, Konkani, Portuguese and Marathi. 

 

Major parties in North Goa:

There are many active parties in the North Goa region. Bharatiya janata party (BJP) , Indian national Congress party (INC) , Nationalist Congress party (NCP), United Goa Party (UGP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MAG), United Goa Democratic Party (UGDP), and Goa Forward Party (GFP) are the main parties present in this region. 

 

Till 2019, there were 13 Lok Sabha elections out of which Congress have won it 5 times, followed by BJP who have won it 4 times and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MAG) who have won it 4 times. 

 

2014 and 2019 elections: 

BJP has won the elections for Lok Sabha constituency of North Goa in 2014 and 2019.

SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK of BJP defeated RAVI NAIK of Congress party in 2014 elections. Shripad Naik got 237903 votes while Ravi Naik got 132304 votes. Thus, he won by a margin of   26% votes. 

In 2019, SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK again won the elections by defeating GIRISH RAYA CHODANKAR of the Congress party. Naik got 244844 votes in total while Chodankar got 164597 votes in total. He won by a margin of 18.7%.

 

Important candidates:

Important candidate from Bhartiya Janta Party is SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK. He has already won the last two elections of 2014 and 2019 . He is one of the experienced members of the BJP. He is quite popular with the local citizens and has promised to bring development in the region. 

 

Congress party has selected Ramakant Khalap. He was previously the Chief minister of Goa. He was also one of the members of 11th Lok Sabha. He introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament. He is one of the oldest members of the Congress party. There is also a school in Goa named after him. It is known as Ramakant Khalap High School at Mandrem, Goa.
