Who is Mayank Yadav? His Journey

Mayank Prabhu Yadav is a superfast bowler from Delhi. He was born on 17 June 2002 in Bihar, India. He comes from a very humble background. His father Prabhu Yadav is a worker in a local factory in Delhi. From a very young age he started playing cricket and at a young age of 14 joined the Sonnet Club to give his dream wings. Two coaches at the club Devendra Sharma and Tarak Sinha recognised his talent. He’s got a god gift of speed and coaches worked on finishing the diamond for accuracy. After some time he became famous in Delhi with people saying his speed and bounce scares the batters.

“I love speed and always did, not just in cricket but in general life too. Be it a plane, rocket or superbikes. Speed excites me,” Mayank Yadav said after his debut. Despite his speed and talent he couldn’t play in the Delhi U-19 team. “I ran away after the Services guys told me that I was selected. I was not even giving my 50 percent but three or four bouncers I bowled, they were impressed. But I wanted to play for Delhi. Sir mai Delhi ka ladka hun aur yahi se khelna tha (I am a Delhi boy and I wanted to play for Delhi),” Yadav told Indian Express. He played for Delhi in domestic cricket. Before the IPL 2024 he played in 2 list A games in 2022. His never-ending passion and perseverance in cricket finally gave him fruit and he secured a place in the senior team of Delhi in 2022. During a domestic cricket tournament a former Indian cricketer and Lucknow Super Giant’s assistant coach back then spotted his talent, calling him Gautam Gambhir. They refined him to become a high speed bowler. But he couldn’t play and got ruled out because of an injury as fast bowlers are prone to injuries. “We decided to invest in him. We were not going to play him in the first season because he wasn’t ready mentally and physically. He didn’t have miles in his legs since he didn’t play junior cricket at the state level. But he was an important investment for us. Nobody knew about him but we picked him at the auction,” Dahiya said. Now he is playing for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024 making history. He is a right-arm fast bowler and does batting with the right hand.

Is Mayank Ready for the Top Level Cricket?

Mayank played like thunderbolt in IPL 2024 broke his own record with 156.7 KMPH against 155.8 KMPH. Now there are talks spreading across the nation that our 21-year-old speed sensation should be picked for the T20 World Cup 2024. Words are spreading that the decision makers are happy with our speedometer-beater’s performance till now and they can launch him in the Indian Squad. Mayank is ready for top level cricket and it’s the time for him to play in international cricket when he is at his excellence speed. India has lost many of his fast bowlers due to launching them later in their career after they lost their charisma. Indian pacer Abey Kuruvilla is an example of this mistake in the 90s. People are saying this shouldn’t be the case with our speedometer-beater Yadav. As Prasad said, ‘we have seen other young faces who have the world very fast in the past but they Lack game Intelligence and can be wayward. They can be groomed over time but Mayank already looks like a seasoned bowler’.
