The ongoing Lok Sabha election results for Gujarat in 2024 indicate a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Union Home Minister Amit Shah is significantly ahead in Gandhinagar by over 2 lakh votes, reflecting his popularity and the BJP’s strong presence in the state.
The counting of votes began at 8 am for 25 out of 26 seats, as BJP’s Mukesh Dalal had already secured the Surat seat unopposed. Early trends show BJP leading in 24 seats, while Congress is ahead in just one constituency.
Prominent BJP candidates include Parshottam Rupala in Rajkot, Mansukh Mandaviya in Porbandar, and Mitesh Rameshbhai Patel in Anand. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed an alliance hoping to consolidate opposition votes, but it appears the BJP’s dominance continues from previous elections in 2014 and 2019.
Notable campaigns were led by Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah for BJP, while Congress saw efforts from Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The BJP has faced some controversies, such as Rupala’s remarks offending the Kshatriya community, but this does not seem to have significantly impacted their overall lead.
Security is tight at the counting centers, with over 600 officers on duty for postal ballots alone, ensuring a smooth counting process. As the results continue to come in, the BJP looks poised to maintain its stronghold in Gujarat, continuing its clean sweep from the last two elections.
