Mumbai Coastal Road Phase 2 Inaugurated by CM Eknath Shinde

Good news for the Mumbai people, finally Mumbai Coastal Road phase 2 is started on 10 June 2024, marking a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. Mumbai Coastal Road Phase 2 was inaugurated by CM Eknath Shinde.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the second phase of Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. It is a project that connects Worli and Marine Drive and reduces the travel time to 8 minutes.

This phase was accessible from 11 June 2024. It is the opening of the northbound carriageway from Marine Drive to Haji Ali. This is going to reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion between South Mumbai and the western suburbs.

Mumbai Coastal Road Phase 2 is a 10.58 km stretch connecting Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It has 4+4 lanes, a bridge on stilts, an elevated road, and twin tunnels, with entry and exit points at Amarsons Garden, Haji Ali, and Worli Seaface. It is one of the city’s infrastructure developments that is required in Mumbai because Mumbai people and tourists are sick of traffic here. Mumbai traffic is at the top in India. This new construction is expected to cut travel time by 70% and reduce fuel consumption by 34%.

As of now, the north-bound carriageway from Marine Drive to Haji Ali has started and will be open from 7 AM to 11 PM because work is still going on to connect it to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It is expected that it will be completed in October 2024.

However, some controversies are coming out like delays and leakage issues in the southbound tunnel. The construction cost for the first phase of the project is approximately ₹13,984 crore. The entire Mumbai Coastal Road Project aims to improve connectivity and promote the development of Mumbai’s real estate market with the coastal route in areas such as Kandivali, Dahisar, Mira Road, and Goregaon, which have already seen an increase in property prices by 10-15% since the project’s announcement.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project is also known as Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. It is a long route of 10.58 km from Worli to Marine Drive. The project was constructed by the BMC and inaugurated by the SM of Mumbai. As per the two-day review, the traffic seems to be reduced on the Mumbai Coastal Road Project route.

CM Eknath Shinde stated at the time of the inauguration statement during the inauguration of Mumbai that the project will be fully finished by July 2023. But people are expecting it to go by October 2024.
