Karnataka, a state with 28 Lok Sabha seats, held its elections in two phases on April 26 and May 7. The electoral battleground witnessed a fierce contest between the BJP-JD(S) alliance and the Congress, following the Congress’s victory in the previous year’s Assembly polls.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA secured a dominant position with 26 seats, out of which the BJP alone claimed 25 seats. On the other hand, the Congress-JD(S) alliance managed to secure only two seats.
Several heavyweight candidates vied for victory in this year’s election, adding intensity to the electoral landscape. Notable contenders included BJP’s Jagadish Shettar from Belgaum, former Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai from Haveri, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi from Dharwad, Tejasvi Surya from Bengaluru South, and Prajwal Revanna from Hassan.
